BREED DEVELOPMENT

Structured Development of a Young Breed

The development of the Silken Windsprite takes place within the structures of affiliated breed clubs maintaining studbooks, which are subordinate to the respective national kennel clubs. Breeding is based on clearly defined objectives aimed at preserving a functional sighthound type.

Breeding Organization and Responsibility

Responsibility for breeding lies with the affiliated breed clubs in the individual countries.

The selection of breeding animals takes place within the framework of breeding approval examinations and is subject to:

  • defined criteria

  • evaluation by specialist judges

  • as well as the respective national breeding regulations

This ensures that the development of the breed does not take place in an uncontrolled manner, but within clearly defined structures.

Data-Based Breeding

The development of the Silken Windsprite is supported by systematic data collection.
This includes in particular:

  • pedigree data

  • health data

  • genetic testing

These data form the basis for:

  • well-founded breeding decisions

  • long-term stability of the population

  • and the avoidance of genetic risks

International Development

The Silken Windsprite is bred in several countries in Europe as well as in North America.
Existing national structures differ in part, but pursue a common objective:

  • the preservation of a functional sighthound type

  • and a stable, healthy population

Harmonization of Standards

At present, various national standards exist. A central objective is:

the consolidation of these standards and the definition of a unified breed standard

Delimitation and Breeding Objective

This forms the basis for potential recognition by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale. Breeding of the Silken Windsprite is clearly oriented towards the sighthound type.

Historical influences from other breeds are not being continued.
In particular, backcrossing with non-sighthound-type breeds is not intended.

Objective

  • a clearly defined type

  • functional characteristics

  • and genetic stability
